ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The author is deeply indebted to the great many members and former members of the staff of
the Whakatāne Hospital and of the Tauranga Hospital who have contributed to this publication.
Staff currently at the Whakatāne Hospital have been unstinting in their support for the project. In
particular, I wish to single out Mrs Rona Stanley, who has been a staff member for more than 50 years.
Her wealth of knowledge has been priceless.
The Author also acknowledges the invaluable assistance given willingly by the staff of the Whakatāne
