Other senior Medical Staff at Whakatāne Hospital in the 1920s and 1930s were: From November 1923, Messrs Sloan and Tippett were appointed honorary Dental Surgeons. From May 1925, Dr Frederick Appleby was appointed Assistant Anaesthetist and honorary Surgeon. In August 1928, Dr Cronin indicated his intention to resign as at October 1928. From August 1928, Dr JB McMiken was appointed Medical Superintendent. From May 1930, Dr Appleby was appointed acting Medical Superintendent due to Dr McMiken’s ongoing illness. Following Dr McMiken’s resignation in November 1930, Dr Appleby continued to act for a month as Medical Superintendent before resigning in December 1930. In January 1931 Dr JL Frazerhurst (trained at Trinity College, Dublin) was appointed Medical Superintendent. He tendered his resignation in October 1937 with effect from January 1938.
