Auckland was host to the world's largest multi-sport event, the World Masters Games recently. I competed at a national level during the 1960’s and 70’s but this was my first competition for nearly 40 years. My placings were irrelevant to me as I expected to be ‘tail-end- charlie’ but I ended better placed, although never looked like being a medal contender. More than 28,000 people competed in 28 sports across 48 competition venues. Here we celebrate those that took part from the BOPDHB with a snapshot of memories and photos supplied to Checkup. We know there are many more of you not featured here that participated – congratulations to you all. The Games were a great experience with the competitors being treated amazingly by the many volunteers and officials who participated. The comradeship among our group was incredibly supportive and I met many old friends from my old cycling days and made many more new ones. Nothing like this is done without the tremendous support I have had from my family and my work colleagues. asters Games The World M event. ibly inspiring was an incred y individuals active health t, fi , le ib ed Incr rt.
