Hospital Play Specialists Debbie McDougall , Stacey Pennell and Donna Opie held an official opening and blessing of the recently completed outdoor area on the Children ’ s Ward recently .
The deck area complete with rain sensored louvre roof , plants , wind chimes and a feature sculpture were unveiled to guests to mark Hospital Play Specialists Awareness week . A small blessing and explanation of the meaning behind the Pikoura sculpture or double twist was followed by an afternoon tea .
The Pikoura represents two new shoots arising from the ground and growing together . It stands for the bonding of friendship and the coming together of two people or cultures . It was chosen to represent the bi-cultural heritage of Aotearoa and the bonds between hospital and home .
