Overview

Chief Executive , Helen Mason .
As we head into autumn , it ' s a good time to think about how we ' re keeping ourselves well . The influenza vaccination campaign is just about to kick off , with the support of our Flu fighters . We ' re all able to play a role in keeping our patients , their families and whānau , together with our families and whānau , protected from the flu by getting ourselves vaccinated . Please play your part .
It ' s great to see a number of our team taking on big physical challenges , with Team Happy Feet walking 100km for Oxfam this week , the Clinical Trials unit signing up to the Mount Everest Challenge at Mauao and one of the IS team competing in the Sky Tower Firefighters ' Challenge in May .
I personally think it ' s great to have a fitness or wellness goal to be working towards . Tauranga ' s first international marathon will be held in October . I think that ' s likely to be the next goal for my husband Max and I . The teams I ' ve been part of in my last three jobs have all had " wellness KPIs ". Having a wellness KPI gives you a chance to talk about work life balance , and how we as health care professionals can " walk the talk ". The goal doesn ' t have to be huge . It might be something like including fruit in your diet , or making sure you take a holiday . It does need to be something you want to do for yourself , rather than being proposed by someone else .
A few weeks ago , I caught up with someone who ' d set themselves a goal of eating more healthily . I had forgotten about their wellness KPI , but commented on how well they looked . They reminded me about the wellness KPI they set for themselves . It was great to see the positive impact that proactive step has had for them .
My next most immediate goal is jumping out of a plane ! Some of my team nominated me to be dropped from an airplane as part of the Drop Your Boss event , to support kids through the Graeme Dingle Foundation .
I saw the Graeme Dingle Foundation in action last year when I visited Papamoa Primary School . The Kiwi Can life skills and values programme aims to give kids a sense of self-worth and self-confidence ; the ability to take responsibility and be accountable for their actions ; develop a ' can do ' attitude and a positive approach to the challenges in life .
If you ' d like to support the work of the Foundation and see me dropped , you can through : https :// givealittle . co . nz / fundraiser / drophelenmason
Lastly thank you to everyone who has so strongly got behind " Creating our Culture ". We ' re already beginning to see the impact .
