It ’ s a brave , new ‘ digital ’ world

By the Learning Technology Team .
Digital World is the latest online development from the Clinical School ’ s Learning Technology team .
The team has been busy in its Digital Burrow building , creating a suite of online courses for everyone to use and access on the Midland Learning site .
We currently have online courses on : Microsoft Word , Microsoft Outlook , OnePlace , Managing your Money and Computer Basics . Each course is packed full with an array of resources including short videos ( average play time of 3-4 minutes ), quick guides ( one or two pages of instruction on how to complete a specific task ), booklets , self-test challenges , and jargon busters ( we all know how important they are ). There is also a forum where you can ask a question and get it answered as well as links to further training . These courses are designed to help you work more efficiently and improve how things are done on the computer .
The courses have been designed for ‘ just in time ’ training - short , to the point fixes and help for what you need , when you need it and nothing more . No long pages to read , no lengthy instructions - just easy to follow steps to complete a task . For example , if you need to create a contact group in Outlook and don ’ t know how to do it , head on over to Digital World where you can watch a video , print a quick guide or grab a copy of the Contacts booklet to keep for the future reference .
The team is beavering away on future exciting software courses too , including Windows , Microsoft Excel , Microsoft PowerPoint , Visio and even how to add a printer . Other courses in the pipeline include support with operating mobile devices , video conferencing and much more .
