Te Whāriki ā Toi is six months old By Christine Busby, Education Manager. Our online learning site, Te Whāriki ā Toi, is six months old. Since December 2018, we have enrolled just over 800 new users, both hospital staff, and primary and community providers, and nearly 5,500 courses have been completed in that time. So what’s new? There is a lot more to Te Whāriki ā Toi than just health and safety refreshers. You can learn the basics around service improvement in a healthcare setting with our two hour Improving Together course. And if you want to dig deeper into this subject, then the IHI Open School courses are really worthwhile. The five modules should take you about seven hours to complete – you can take whatever time you need to complete them and chip away at them over a period. A highly recommended course is Speak up Safely with BUILD created by April Strategy. This online course is part of the Creating our Culture programme and complements the optional two hour face-to-face session. You can book into the face-to-face session using the training calendar on OnePlace. Around 60,000 people in our community live with a disability – that’s one in four people. New Zealand’s Health Quality and Safety Commission are focused on helping all healthcare workers treat tangata whaikaha with respect and understanding. Our 15 minute Disability Responsiveness course is endorsed by the Commission. It sets out the six key points to be mindful of so that you treat all tangata whaikaha with dignity and respect. Text Reminders for courses The Education Centre has started sending text reminders to make sure you attend the training course you’ve booked into. If you’d like a text reminder, make sure your mobile details are up-to-date. You can check this on OnePlace by following these steps: Under ‘My Menu’ click on ‘My HR & Payroll Select ‘My Details’ click on personal details, Click ‘address’ review or update your phone details. Don’t forget to save (bottom left hand side of screen) If you can’t attend a course that you received a reminder about, or need to make changes to the booking, please do not respond to the automated message, you’ll need to ask your Manager to cancel your booking. One of our organisational goals is to help patients prepare for future health care and end-of-life care. The new Advance Care Planning course uses four modules developed by the Health Quality and Safety Commission. This 1½ hour course, covers all aspects of advance care planning starting with your own plan through to planning conversations with your patients and others. Other new learning opportunities include: For everyone Cyber Awareness For managers Management Fundamentals – Employment Basics Domestic Violence – Victims’ Protection Act For nurses and midwives Controlled and Monitored Medicines Stroke Core Competencies For clinicians working in ED Non-Fatal Strangulations For SMO’s and registrars Prescribing Fluids for Children 23
