As part of a weeklong visit to New Zealand
hospitals, BOPDHB was pleased to host
representatives from Princess Alexandra
hospital in Brisbane in May.
Beth Garrahy (Assistant Director of Nursing, Surgical Speciality
Units) and Praneel Kumar, (Business Manager, Rehabilitation)
wished to learn more about Care Capacity Demand Management
(CCDM) in New Zealand, i.e. how at BOPDHB we use systems
and processes to help manage patient flow and allocate staff from
all disciplines to meet changing patient care needs.
Over the day we talked with them about all aspects of CCDM
which included TrendCare as our patient acuity system and
patient presentation forecasting. They were interested to learn
about how we used variance response indicators, VRM actions,
18
hospital status at a glance boards and information in the form of
dashboards to help manage workloads. They particularly liked
how hospital status at a glance boards are in real time providing a
quick overview of how the hospitals are working. The delegation
attended the daily Operations Meeting and saw in action how staff
from across both hospitals checked in with their variance summary
for the day and the day ahead.
We often host visitors from other hospitals, it is a team effort to
arrange and CARE for our visitors. Thanks to everyone who gave
their time to showcase BOPDHB with Manaakitanga.
