Celebrating success
The work of Dr Joe Bourne (above), Clinical Director of
Improvement & Innovation, in the community has been
recognised.
The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners
(RNZCGP) has named Dr Bourne as one of two recipients of this
year’s Community Service Medal.
Congratulations to Emma Thomas (above), Registered Nurse,
Community Mental Health Tauranga. Emma has been awarded a
Rural & Regional Clinician Scholarship to attend the Australia &
New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders annual conference.
Emma was instrumental in developing a pathway for assessing
and treating clients with eating disorders within the BOPDHB.
New Radiation Oncologist
welcomed to the Bay
Earlier this month Dr Donald Chan RANZCR MBChB (Auckland)
joined the Bay’s Radiation Therapy facility, the Kathleen Kilgour
Centre.
Dr Chan has extensive experience in the management of multiple adult tumour streams
and considers himself a generalist. Donald has expertise in state of the art technology
(IMRT, VMAT and IGRT) as well as seed brachytherapy of the prostate. He is experienced
in the use of stereotactic radiotherapy and believes in personalised patient care. He is a
strong advocate for the multidisciplinary management of cancer, has held roles in clinical
lead ership and registrar training and is committed to research.

Donald prides himself on clear communication and providing the best advice when caring
for his patients.
