Library News

ProQuest Article Database
The latest addition to the library article database products is ProQuest ’ s Health Research Premium Collection . You will find this on the library ’ s page on OnePlace under databases .
It ’ s a good idea to browse the basic screen initially as it clearly displays subject coverage and the different databases available to you . You can search any of the databases independently , for example public health , or enter your search terms into the main search box to search over all the databases . Doing a search in ProQuest , even with the added functionality of the advanced screen , does not replace the specificity of more formal searching in Medline or Cinahl but is a valuable adjunct for finding full text articles .
The value of ProQuest as a library resource is the significant content it adds to our electronic journal resources , especially peerreviewed titles from the BMJ , the Royal College of Nursing , and Nature collections .
Nursing Ebooks from EBSCO
Around 500 nursing ebooks are now available through EBSCO . The collection includes content from several popular series such as .... Made incredibly easy ! and Fast facts . Access to these and other Ebsco ebooks is via the ebooks menu on the library page .

The Digital world update

By Kim Brown , Learning Technology Trainer .
Recently we surveyed a small group of staff to find out what resources BOPDHB staff is using to support them in the digital world .
Twenty- six staff completed the survey ; most ( 83 %) were in administration positions . We asked participants to rate their experience of using our training resources . More than 60-percent ( 63.5 %) were able to apply the skills they ’ d learnt in training immediately . Many were able to help colleagues using their new skills or knowledge ( 72 %). The top rated resources to use were identified as Short videos or quick guides .
Though the survey we discovered that many people have lost their Ribbon . The Ribbon was introduced by Microsoft in 2007 . It replaced the menu system with grouped icons and commands and was designed to improve work efficiency . Many people didn ’ t know how to get their Ribbon back . We can help . If you would like to upskill yourself in Microsoft Word , Excel or Outlook , and find out how to get your Ribbon back and learn how to use the options on the Ribbon to become more efficient , there is a new suite of training session now on the Training Calendar . You can book a training session through OnePlace under ‘ My Menu ’, training calendar . Alternatively , for the self-directed learner there is the Just in Time category under Courses on Midland Learning .
