Celebrating 30 years nursing This year Wanda Owen who is a senior Registered Nurse (RN) in Medical Day Stay is celebrating a career in nursing spanning 30 years, all at BOPDHB. Wanda started working as an Enrolled Nurse Student and graduated the following year. With support from the DHB and Wintec, she did further studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing (BN) in 2004. Wanda completed a Post-graduate Diploma in 2011 and in March this year, graduated with a Masters in Nursing with Distinction. Wanda is grateful for support from her family, colleagues and friends. As well as Nurse Educator Coordinator, Liz Buckley, BOPDHB Advanced Study Funds and Health Workforce New Zealand. She says without that support her dream would have been much harder to achieve. And she has a message for those who are thinking of doing further studies, but are hesitant because they don’t think they can manage it. ‘Stop with the excuses of why one cannot succeed and get studying; 'YOU' can do it’.
