By Christine Busby, Education Manager. Midland Learning has a new name and a new design. It’s now called Te Whāriki ā Toi and when you log in you will see a fresh new look. Above: the new look Dashboard which is what users will see first when they log in. Te Whāriki ā Toi translates to “The Woven Mat of Toi Rākau”. Mats are a well- known image for the weaving of knowledge and education. Particular mats had special functions and some were seating in places of learning. Toi is a common ancestor to all iwi (tribes) in the Bay of Plenty and “toi” is also a word for summit, so gives an idea of the peak of achievement. Usernames and passwords are unchanged, and all learning records are still there along with our existing courses. There have been some changes to the functionality of the site. For instance, when staff log in, they will go straight to their Dashboard where they can see their course completion, check results and find courses. A mix of mandatory, role required and optional professional development courses all attract professional development hours. Te Whāriki ā Toi also provides access to eportfolios, using the Mahara platform. If you haven’t looked at our e-learning courses in a while, you can check them out at www.tewharikiatoi.ac.nz from home or work. We have some new courses coming up including Management Fundamentals – Employment Basics, Disability Responsiveness, Emergency Department Medication Standing Orders and Cyber Awareness. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with [email protected] or Education Manager, Christine Busby. In 2019, our primary and community providers will be able to access Te Whāriki ā Toi and complete some of our online courses. 11
