Taranaki DHB Play Specialist Sharon Luque recently spent
the week at Whakatāne Hospital providing the Children’s Ward
and ED staff with hands on education sessions, about ways
to distract children while they’re having what can be painful or
upsetting procedures. Children’s Ward Nurse Manager Sharon
Powley says staff learnt a lot and are grateful for the sharing of
knowledge.

Robertson and a group of Health Care Assistants were
presented with certificates recently, after completing a Care
Companion practical workshop. Care Companions aim to
improve the quality and safety of care particularly for older frail
patients.

and Health for All
The world-wide theme for International Nurses
Day this year is “A Voice to lead: Health for
All”, and we’ll be interpreting the theme into
celebrating the diversity of our nursing staff.
People and Capability Assistant Business Partner and member
of the organising committee Rebecca Wade, says International
Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on 12 May, the
anniversary of Florence Nightingales birth and is a time to
acknowledge nurses for the important contribution they make to
everyone’s lives.

“Our celebrations will also include tool kits of activities for nursing
staff, which will be distributed in the week preceeding International
Nurses Day.”
Rebecca says some wards traditionally hold potluck lunches, and
these are encouraged.
“International Nurses Day is an important date in our calendar and
a time to celebrate with our nurses in a fun way.”
