11 Smartphone Hacks To
Make Your Mobile Battery
Last Longer
T
he biggest challenge for smartphone manufacturers today is the amount of amperes they can deliver in their batteries. Low battery power is one of
the major problem areas which leading mobile companies have not been able to figure out till now. There is not
much you can do with size, and the real innovation must
come from quick charge devices instead of bigger batteries. While the manufacturers figure out this problem,
we the consumers are left will battery hogging phones
in our hands. So, till a good solution comes up, we give
you some handy tips which will help you improve your
phone battery life.
1. Never Fully Charge Or Discharge At The
Beginning
Most of the phones now come with Lithium Ion batteries which mean that you do not need to fully charge or
discharge them. These phones suffer from low voltage,
and therefore, it is better if you partially charge them in
a range of 20-90%.
2. Avoid Using The Phone While Charging
Ever wonder why charging wires are too short? It’s because the manufacturers want to discourage the use of
mobiles while charging. Using the mobiles while charging exhausts phone charge cycles and shortens battery
life, and should be avoided whenever possible. A battery
has only limited number of charge cycles after which the
battery must be replaced.
3. Don’t Use Adaptive/Auto Brightness
Your AMOLED screens are the biggest battery guzzlers
and, thus, using auto-brightness is a bad way to lose out
on battery hours. Auto-brightness is way brighter than
what you need and customizing the screen light when
needed is the best way to conserve battery power.
4. Turn Off Vibrate And Haptic Feedback
Vibration in your phone is not only harmful to your health
in the long-term but also detrimental to your battery life.
Also, haptic feedback (the buzzing sound on touching
the keys) does not really add value to your overall experience, and thus, is a redundant feature without any
benefits.
5. Never Buy Spurious Third Party Charger Or
Batteries
Third party charger and batteries are almost always improper for charging your mobile phone. Always stick with
original batteries from respected brands.
6. Switch Off GPS/ Wi-Fi /Bluetooth When Not
In Use
There is no need of being connected all the time. Switch-
ing off GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth actually saves a lot of
battery and takes the mobile performance to a whole
new level. All these applications are very heavy to operate and it’s best to only use them as and when required.
7. Shorten Your Screen Timeout Setting
Studies report that an average user turns his smartphone on 150 times a day, and, thus a shorter screen
time-out setting will go a long way in adding up to the
battery life. Restricting it to just 15 seconds will have the
maximum impact on the battery.
8. Update Your Apps Frequently And Only
With WiFi
Most of the applications get updates on a monthly basis
and they are usually optimized for better performance
using minimum power. Older apps chew up your RAM
and battery life.
9. Auto-Sync Comes With A Rider Of High Battery And Memory Usage
Only use auto-sync when you need to update your email
folder frequently. Most of the email apps come with a
feature of updating your folder after opening the app—
use it.
10. Check The Signal Strength While Calling
Bad signal strength will prompt your mobile to use extra
power and search for signals. So, it’s better to make calls
once you are out of the basement and pop the phone
into airplane mode when you do not need to make voice
or data calls.
11. Clear Background Processes Which Are Not Required
You can force stop those processes and apps which you
do not require from running in the background. You can
access it by going to Settings>Apps and swiping to the
left.
