Petunias

For garden color , it is hard to beat Petunias ! These longtime favorites are self-cleaning , and their large , colorful blooms will help attract both butterflies and hummingbirds to your yard . They are versatile being perfect for baskets , planters , combinations , or the landscape . Pretty much , anywhere , they can be guaranteed at least 6 hours of direct sunlight , is a good place for petunias .
While they are relatively easy to grow , there are some important keys to keeping them looking good- especially , as the heat of summer hits . Regular water & fertilization is crucial to keeping your petunias looking good . Periodically , clip or pinch back stems to help plants stay looking full & colorful . Remember , deer & rabbits are fans of petunias too , so take measures to help protect your plantings . Pests to watch for include aphids & budworms . Also , if planting in beds , be sure to rotate crops every couple of years so you do not build up soil diseases .
