Philippines, the Niji-S has been demonstrated on important cultural objects
from the UST museum, the National Museum, Ateneo Art Gallery and the UP
Jorge Vargas Museum.
About the Project Leader
Dr. Maricor N. Soriano is an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Physics.
Her field of interests are Color, Video and Image Processing applied to Marine
Science, Art Conservation, Biometrics and Spectral and Medical Imaging; and
Physics Education.
Dr. Soriano has received numerous awards including the Third World Academy of
Science Prize for Young Scientist in the Philippines in 2009; Outstanding Young
Scientist, National Academy of Science and Technology in 2006; and Most
Outstanding PhD Graduate of College of Science, UP Diliman in 1998.
Dr. Manuel Joseph C. Loquias is currently Assistant Professor 5 at the Institute of
Mathematics, UP Diliman. He has been a faculty of the Institute since 2001. His
research interests include Mathematical Crystallography, Aperiodic Order, Discrete
Geometry and Combinatorics. He teaches precalculus, calculus, abstract algebra,
and modern geometry to undergraduate math majors, as well as graduate courses
in linear algebra and combinatorics.
Dr. Rovin B. Santos is Assistant Professor 5 at the Institute of Mathematics, UP
Diliman. He has been a faculty of the Institute for the past 14 years. He specializes
in Mathematical Crystallography and Cryptography, and teaches Elementary
Analysis and Abstract Algebra to undergraduate math majors.
Dr. Ma. Lailani B. Walo is Assistant Professor 5 at the Institute of Mathematics, UP
Diliman, and has been with the university for 21 years. Her field of specialization
is mathematical crystallography. She is currently teaching General Education
Mathematics courses, Practical Mathematics, and General Mathematics for
undergraduate students.

One of the connections between science and art can be seen in their common
preoccupation with symmetry. Crystallography, the science concerned with the
struc
