OVCRD Colloquium and Fair 2013

I commend UP Diliman’s Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Development
for organizing this year’s Paliwanagan sa UP Diliman: The OVCRD Colloquium
Series.
This year’s Paliwanagan reflects OVCRD’s determination to make research and
creative works by UP scientists, artists and scholars more accessible to a larger
demographic. Each Paliwanagan underscores UP’s important leadership role in the
country as a research university and a public service university.
Just like many top universities around the world, UP is under heavy pressure to
optimize the use of its limited resources for R&D through enhanced productivity.
Furthermore, government and industry expect UP to gear its efforts towards outputs
that could have immediate practical application, particularly in addressing the
challenges faced by the country, such as in health and disaster management.
As constituents of the country’s national university, UP’s scientists, artists, scholars,
teachers, and staff are always conscious of the crucial role UP plays in national
development and in shaping minds that shape this nation. Their commitment to
excellence propels them to push the limits of knowledge and creativity.
I am hopeful that this year’s Paliwanagan sa UP Diliman: The OVCRD Colloquium
Series will provide new insights and new ways of thinking for the participants. May
you have productive, meaningful, and enjoyable discussions.
