THE TECHNOLOGY CORE INCUBATION FACILITY
OF THE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE

The College of Science (CS) acquired key equipment as part of the 1.7B peso
appropriation from the Philippine government for the infrastructure requirements
of the National Science Complex. The equipment forms the nucleus of the
Technology Core Incubation Facility (TCIF) – an initiative started by the previous
CS administration led by former Dean Caesar A. Saloma that is envisioned to
provide high quality technical support for research and development and become
instrumental in university technology commercialization. The presentation will give
an overview of the organization of the TICF, its general objectives, services
offered, current status, and longer-term goals and plans. Hopefully, units and
individuals from outside the CS may recognize the capabilities of the TICF for both
their own R&D initiatives as well as for collaborative projects with the CS.
About the Presenter
Dr. Jose Maria P. Balmaceda is the current Dean of the College of Science and is
Professor 12 at the Institute of Mathematics. He obtained his PhD Mathematics
degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1991. His bachelor’s
and master’s degrees are from UP Diliman. Elected as Academician of the National
Academy of Science and Technology in 2008, Dr. Balmaceda is the current Chair
of the CHED Technical Committee for Mathematics. His research and publications
are in the theory of groups and their representations and algebraic combinatorics.
