welcome 2017

Welcome to our first edition of BOLD for 2017 ! I trust you all enjoyed the festive season and New Year celebrations – it ’ s always such a wonderful time of year . I enter the New Year with a sense of excitement and enthusiasm about what the months ahead will bring for our great region . Construction on the Second Range Crossing will ramp up further , we hope to have some clarity on when construction will commence for the Brisbane to Melbourne Inland Rail Line and freight flights into Asia will become the order of the day ( well week anyway !).
We will also see the revitalisation of our City Hall space completed and I look forward to the range of important community events that will be held within the Civic Precinct as we offer this historic and special place to our residents once again . Other exciting projects for the year ahead include progressing the Railway Parklands Priority Development Area , a range of infrastructure upgrades to the thousands of Council roads across the region , as well as important water and wastewater upgrades , and a number of improvements to our parks and recreation facilities , just to name a few !
Toward the end of last year , I joined the very successful Access China trip to Shanghai , organised by Toowoomba Surat Basin Enterprise . Along with the Minister for State Development , Dr Anthony Lynham , and a number of Mayoral colleagues from across the state , there were 200 local business owners who took the opportunity to learn of the remarkable opportunities that exist to trade with the growing Asian market .
While in China , on behalf of the region , I entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Yuecheng District which forms the core of the municipality of Shaoxing City , within the Zhejiang Province .
The agreement outlines that the two sides will carry out exchanges and foster cooperation in the fields of economy , trade , science and technology , culture , tourism , education , sports , health , and personnel to promote common prosperity and development .
Importantly , this agreement will complement the MOU signed between Toowoomba Surat Basin Enterprise and Hangzhou Chamber of Commerce , one of China ’ s largest Chambers of Commerce .
Finally , I hope you are enjoying the BOLD publication each quarter . Our BOLD team are constantly taking on your feedback because , as a Council , we are interested in providing our residents with the information they want , in the way they want it .
