Toowoomba Region water supply
The drinking water for Toowoomba and the surrounding towns of Oakey , Jondaryan , Haden , Crows Nest , Highfields , Kingsthorpe , Gowrie Junction , Meringandan , Westbrook and Goombungee is currently supplied by three local dams , Cooby , Perseverance and Cressbrook , a growing number of bores and the Wivenhoe Dam pipeline .
The pipeline from Wivenhoe Dam ( SEQWater ) provides security of supply when the rainfall in our dam catchments is insufficient to maintain supply to meet the region ’ s growing needs .

Fast facts :
• Toowoomba Region ’ s Perseverance Dam built in 1965 has the longest continuous shaft in the Southern Hemisphere . It ’ s estimated to have pumped 48.6 billion litres – that ’ s approximately 19,440 Olympic-size swimming pools since the ‘ 80s . Its total catchment size is 110km 2 with 30,140 ML of storage available

• Cooby Dam ’ s total catchment area is 159km 2 and maximum available storage is 21,166 ML ( megalitres )
• Cressbrook Dam is the largest and newest of the three water supply dams with a total catchment area of 320km 2 and a full water supply useable capacity of 78,847 ML .
