this game . Trust your swing and good things will happen . Will we hit a bad shot ? Sure we will , but that should not change the fact that you can trust your swing .
OUTCOME We as golfers tend to overthink the outcome when thinking about “ what am I going to shoot today ?” Conditioned athletes do not worry about the end result . They focus on the task at hand . Yes , tour professionals can think “ I have to make birdie here ” and 9 times out of 10 , they do . But even in that moment they are focused on the shot at hand , not the next shot or shot after that . When we stop worrying about outcome and focus on EACH shot in that moment , golf gets better in competition . Worrying about outcome will force swings and bad shots to happen . Then trust becomes a factor again , and remember , it ’ s hard to get off that slippery slope . Each shot is important ; not the ones you have not made yet . Focus on the now and not the when .
To become better in competition , you must play in those environments as much as possible . Learn to let go . This does not mean you do not care about the outcome . You are just not living in it . When we live in outcome , we force outcome , usually indicating a bad round is headed your way . Think back to when you played some of your best rounds . Did you ever think of the outcome ? Did you trust your swing ? The answer is most likely yes . Live each shot in the moment , not the next shot or the next hole . If you catch yourself looking ahead , back away and breathe . Your game will get better in competition when you start believing you can trust your swing and letting go of the outcome .
