The weather roller coaster continues!

Warm one day and cold the next. Rain continues to come on a consistent basis. Flooding of Cole Creek left some unwanted debris behind in mid May. We have been able to do just enough to not get behind on mowing. Roughs continue to get mowed daily as weather allows. Fairways and tees have been mowed occasionally whenever they are dry enough to get our mowers on them. Greens are in great shape and have been rolling quick and smooth for multiple weeks now! Green speed has consistently been between 9.5-10.5 on the stimpmeter. Bunkers are being raked on a regular basis and the sand in the new bunkers seems to be compacted now. Please remember to rake yourself out of sand traps after playing your shot. Also please remember to enter and exit the bunkers from a low side and not climb up the slope. This will protect your safety and the health of the surrounding turf.

June is always a big month for us on the golf course! A lot of golf events and sod work will keep us busy. We continue to access the damaged areas in tees, fairways and collars. Warmer weather will help us decide which areas will need to be replaced. Zoysia sod from the bunker project is really slow waking up and will need to be nursed for a while, but we are optimistic that most of it will be fine. To help with the process we are feeding it some nutrients through fertilizer. All tees, fairways, collars and new sod from the bunker project was treated in late May. This will help us overcome the challenges of the past winter as well as push through the seed heads and disease from this spring. On a lighter note, greens are in great shape and we have started back up with our venting and top dressing programs. These two cultural practices insures the health of the surfaces going into summer months.
