Our large peer state research universities engage
two and one half as many instructional and
research personnel when compared to Florida. As
a multiple of population, the proportion is almost
two to one. We are putting a basketball team of
five on a baseball diamond that has nine positions
to defend. Florida’s research performance is
inexorably tied to the gaps opposing batters use
to win the game.
