Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce Started as the Princeton Chamber of Commerce, the organization later changed its name to reflect the membership of the larger Mercer County area. The Chamber has served as a community resource for many years. Through its work, it has developed and partnered on many activities in the Princeton area. The Chamber’s focus on networking and community development has created great events such as Shrimpfeast and the Women’s Expo. These events have knit together the business community of the area to be a strong alliance for improvement. Partners such as the Renaissance Project and City of Princeton have helped carry the Princeton community forward. Now able to expand and fully encompass the business region, the chamber is poised to support a regional business alliance. A Business Alliance for the Whole Region Upon the retirement of two long-serving President/CEOs of the individual Chambers, board members from both Chambers met to discuss merging operations. A Joint Committee on Merger was formed at that time. After reviewing previous merger conversations as early as the 1970s, the Joint Committee recommended merging the organizations and began to educate the governing boards and membership on the benefits of unification. In February 2018, an overwhelming majority of members and board members voted to merge both organizations into one regional Chamber of Commerce. This new Chamber will begin serving the region January 1, 2019, and will maintain the reputation each individual Chamber carried of serving its membership, the businesses of the area, and community as a whole. 48 | Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce
