Bluefield, Community Guide 2018 - Page 50

Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce The Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce traces its roots back to 1904 when a group held a “Business Men’s Meeting’ and established the Chamber of Commerce. For over 114 years this organization has served as the “Voice for Business in the Two Virginias.” Through the many years, volunteers from the business community have led development of the greater area utilizing the Chamber’s organization and reputation. Industry trade shows and niche conferences such as the Bluefield Coal Show, Better Living Show, Women’s Conference, and other events have served as a catalyst of commerce in the two Virginias and across the world. Leadership development, for both youth and professionals, has provided the Greater Bluefield Area a consistent source of leadership and guidance through the years for the area. This investment in the future management and guidance of civic and community affairs and a broad base of community volunteers have provided a lasting strength to the community. Volunteers like these have carried on the great traditions of serving lemonade to “Nature’s Air- Conditioned City” when the temperature hits 90º. The Bluefield Chamber has created a solid foundation for a new business alliance to be formed to serve the region and its business community.
