lessons where 8 % of the content needs to be about fractions ? This could be done virtually . With dynamics examples . There is still a need for a teacher . For that personal connection , but also to help develop knowledge . Instead of the expectation that the teacher has to do everything , there are certain parts to the process that can be done virtually . That the teachers while use aids when presenting the knowledge . We call that blended learning . For example , that the teacher would say : “ Okay lets learn about fractions today . Let ’ s look at what this video has to say .” In this way the teacher can interact with the students again .
There is a discussion in a lot of countries that talks about how busy teachers are . That teacher can ’ t prepare themselves enough to give the right lesson . Is that something you recognize ? There are two parts to this . One part is that there are counties like Finland or Singapore that have a lot more time for preparation and their teaching quality is very good . But this is something that will never happen in de US . Teacher will not get 40 % of their time to prepare their lessons . The other part is that there is a solution . By taking the presentation of the new content out of the hands of the classroom teachers . Let teachers interact with students on a human level . So they can be experts in helping students getting a little bit better , on expanding their knowledge . And this expansion of knowledge needs interaction from person to person . I think the problem will be partially solved by blended learning .
Last question . What will it look like in the upcoming years for the art and science of teaching . A lot of teachers will have the master degree the art and science of teaching , what will that mean ? Going to the masters will by definition make you a better teacher because you have to demonstrate that you have confidents in the classroom and can implement the strategies . It is not only about learning the materials , you also need to practise it in your class , this is part of the master . What I ’ m trying to stir is a network of teachers , who provide classroom examples . So they could record this with their phone and show a short video of 30 seconds to 2 minutes , while they demonstrate one specific strategy . I envision a free network , a sort of YouTube channel if you will . Where teachers could upload their examples . Because when you read about it and try if for yourself , it is different . But when you see other people do it , you get a slightly different version and you get an idea how you could alter it .
