Link Q&A

Singer - Songwriter

"The level of committment and sacrifice has to be immeasurable"

BLAQUELINE: When we take away the erotic and sensual Link, what is a night with Lincoln like?

LINK: (laughter) Lincoln is a cool dude, quiet, responsible, more basic and not as flashy. Down to earth and very loyal. However, I would still say that Link and Lincoln are still the same in the area of eroticism.

BLAQUELINE: Let's switch to music for a second. When an artist sets out to have a career in music, what should their main focus be?

LINK: Quality of music, it must be top notch, you have to have a hit record. At least for me, nobody cares how you look physically, if your music is wack. But you still must look the part. Your willingness to go all out and do whatever you have to do to make your mark. You cannot have limits and you must be a work horse. If it means no sleep or driving 24 straight hours or whatever. You must have the mindset that "I am not going to let nothing stop me."

BLAQUELINE: I always hear sacrifice and commitment. Is it truly a big sacrifice...bigger than what artists think it is?

LINK: Yes, yes it is. I cannot imagine artists making it without sacrifice. You will have to sacrifice time with your loved ones. If you are in a relationship, they will have to understand. You cannot accomplish your goals without sacrifice. You have to dedicate everything. You must be committed. When one door closes, there is another door. You are competing against the world. An artist may get beat out by another artists because they did not have the commitment.

BLAQUELINE: What is the current state of R&B?

LINK: We talk about this all the time. It's like every 4-5 years we are going through this with R&B. They come with a new style of music. In my opinion, R&B music will never go away. It is the music of our people, it's what we grew up with. This is the form of music that was passed down to us. R&B cannot be replaced...you can't water it down. You have too many fans that love authentic R&B.

BLAQUELINE: Are you an indepndent artist?

LINK: Yes I am and have been since 2008.

BLAQUELINE: Is that a positive move for you?

LINK: It's very different.

BLAQUELINE: I heard that it's ok to be independent if you can afford it. Is that correct?

LINK: Yes, that is 100% spot on...correct. The hard part is that you are responsible for doing every thing.

My interview with Link was extremely informative and he kept me laughing. His sincere compliments to me and my hard work brought about an emotion that gave me continued strength to be that positive voice for the industry. There is so much more to hear on the upcoming audio portion of the interview. But he left me with this - "If there is one thing that I can thank my mom for (there are a million things) it would my gratitude to her for taking me to church every Sunday and introducing me to God.
