MORE APPRECIATION...

"Carbon copies fade away and are seasonal. But the original will last forever."

Many artists have to find creative ways to connect with their fans and reach new ones. With the sudden death of Dino in 2003, (the twin brother of Shazam) do you find that you have to look for more original ideas to maintain your fan base? No because music is all we know, the only element missing is Dino. But we do try to stay updated with the sounds and instruments that are being used today. Believe it or not our fan base is still growing and I receive messages on Facebook daily from new fans (young and old). Our fans continue to express how much they love our music more than the new music that is being played today on the radio. We’re just blessed to have a very diverse fan base, including the grandmas and grandpas.

I have read in many articles about your decision to turn down very lucrative contracts because you refused to add a third member to H-Town. You have been consistent in your decision to be a duo. Is there a sense of discomfort in knowing that this person is not an original part of the H-Town family or do you feel that adding a third member is a sense of disrespect for the place in the group that Dino held? We’ve turned down some (contracts) because of that reason. Adding a new member will not change the fact one of the original members (Dino Conner) is no longer here. We even took a poll of our fans to ask them if they thought we should add a new member; over 80% said no. But most of the other offers that were being submitted to us were 360 deals. We would rather stay on our own than to partner with a label that will take money from us that has nothing to do with them. For example, our show money and songs we recorded and had major success with before we met them.

There are so many artists that yearn for the type of success that H-Town has had. What words of advice and encouragement can you give the new, up and coming artists? Well if they are good it would be easy. Just stay consistent, always give your best and be original. Take a little of what’s out there and create your own lane. Carbon copies fade away and are seasonal. But the original will last forever.

Do you have any regrets? No regrets at all.

Where do you find peace and comfort away from everyone? Music is our peace.
