1st runner up gets Rs 15,000 and a 2-month internship with Novozymes . The second runner-up gets Rs 10,000 and a month ’ s internship at Novozyme ’ s R & D facility in Bangalore .
Besides , the first two winners from each of the four zones - West , South , North and East — will compete at a grand national finale in Bangalore later this year . The 18 students who represented their colleges based in the states of Maharashtra , Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh were chosen through internal competitions within their institutions . The students are given 3 topic to prepare a few days before and they are randomly assigned one of these topics just a few hours prior to the event start . All the 18 participants were given a certificate and a medal too .
INDIA ' S AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH & EDUCATION SYSTEM IS ONE OF WORLD ' S LARGEST
The Department of Agricultural Research and Education ( DARE ) coordinates and promotes agricultural research and education in the country . DARE provides the necessary government linkages for the Indian Council of Agricultural Research ( ICAR ), the premier research organisation for coordinating , guiding and managing research , education and extension in agriculture including horticulture , fisheries and animal sciences in the entire country . With 102 research institutes and 73 agricultural universities spread across the country , the National Agricultural Research System ( NARS ) is one of the largest in the world .
This information was revealed by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare , Mr Sudarshan Bhagat in the Parliament recently .
While the ICAR Institutes have the Departments of Extension , the Agricultural Universities have the directorates of extension to identify , test and refine the transferable agricultural technologies and other related information emanating from research as well as to establish effective liaison among various departments and other stakeholders both the public and private for their transfer .
MODERATE INCREASE IN STUDENTS OPTING FOR AGRICULTURE COURSES
If we look at the statistics , the students opting for agriculture has increased moderately every year . Number of graduate and postgraduate students passed out from different agricultural universities in India stood at 22,739 in 2012 , 23,892 in 2013 , 24,326 in 2014 and 24,736 in 2015 respectively .
Although the government claims success in increasing number of students each year , these numbers look moderate because of the increasing young population in India and shrinking agriculture
space . At present there are 73 Agricultural Universities ( AUs ) including 05 Deemed-to-be universities , 02 Central Agricultural Universities , 04 Central Universities with agriculture faculty . Indian Council of Agricultural Research ( ICAR ) conducts an All India Entrance Examination every year for filling up of 15 percent and 25 percent seats respectively for undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes every year .
RESEARCH TRAINING FELLOWSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR INDIAN CLINICIANS
The Wellcome Trust-DBT India Alliance in its latest notification has announced a fellowship scheme to provide training opportunity to clinicians who wish to hon their skills with latest practical knowledge . The fellowship is open for Indian clinicians who wish to undertake high quality research training in India under the supervision of experts in basic , clinical and public health research .
The application process for the fellowship requires a joint application from the Applicant and the Principal supervisor . Detailed information on this fellowship scheme is available on the India Alliance website . The online application form will be available on the India Alliance grants management system from 1 August 2016 . Completed joint applications can be sent strictly by 6 September 2016 as there will be no extensions to this deadline as per the notification .
AICTE HEADQUARTERS SHIFT TO A BRAND NEW OFFICE COMPLEX

The Newly constructed office complex of All India Council for Technical Education ( AICTE ) was inaugurated recently by Mr Upendra Kushwaha , Union Minister of State ( HRD ). Speaking on the occasion , the Minister of State stressed the importance of AICTE in cultivating technology for the transformation of India , especially the rural India . He wished that the AICTE in its best capacity fulfill the vision of our Prime Minister for transforming India through facilitating quality technical education for our youth . education

AICTE which was functioning from temporary locations till now , will move to the new complex , an upscale office with modern architectural design constructed by DRDO . The Office Premise is spread over 5 acres with 37,500 sq . mt constructed area situated in Nelson Mandela Marg , Vasant Kunj , New Delhi . Delivering the address on the occasion , Mr V S Oberoi , Secretary ( Higher Education ) MHRD pointed out the role of close to 3 decades old AICTE in ensuring the access , equity and quality of technical education in India .
