BimROCK Magazine Issue #3 Black | Page 7

BLACK. It is the colour on which the universe has chosen to scatter her stars when she displays her tapestry of galaxies. BLACK. It is the colour of mystery, wealth, solidarity and mourning. The fashionable salute it. Like or like not, there is nothing that can touch the strength this colour brings to mind and the sleek prowess it exudes. Thanks to African-Americans, February has been branded Black History Month. Avid thinkers in the Diaspora subscribe to a life of black consciousness everyday. Never the less, during this period respect is due to this far-reaching celebration and acknowledgment of the contributions made by black folks, both pre and post enslavement. EDITOR’S note We at BimROCK salute all things positive and in so doing present our own BLACK Issue. No ‘issues’ here though, just good stuff. We get the pages turning with newcomer artist Ronald Williams. His art is not for the faint of heart. His visual message, profound and graphic, so brace yourself. You’ve been warned. Things take an unexpected twist with our cover feature Zoé Trotman, the reigning Miss Barbados World 2014, who gave us license to flip her pageant pretty into a model chic affair. We are all ears for the sultry DJ D.Luxe and left licking our fingers after Chef Leandro, in all his polished roughness, demonstrates the art of roasting fish on black rock and chopped wood. There’s a goddess in the mix – artist Nakazzi Tafari. We also have a songbird, singer Kristen Walker. It’s quite an empowering read. Enjoy! Rachelle Gray Editor-in-Chief EDITIOR | BIM ROCK | 7
