CROP OVER CARNIVAL TAKE OVER Reviewed by: Carlos Brathwaite It’s been a little over five months since the last band went down Spring Garden Highway. The costumes and revelry may be gone but the music that fuelled the season is still going strong. So strong, that some of these songs have found their way all over the region, particular our sister island Trinidad & Tobago. LeadPipe & Saddis and Fadda Fox have been enjoying sweet success with their respective hits “Ah Feeling” and “Ducking”. These songs dominate the airwaves and party scene of TnT so much that the locals are generally surprised that they’re not from the twin island republic. With the popularity of the songs, the guys found themselves in the International Groovy Soca Monarch semi-finals - along with veteran Biggie Irie. With no prior competitive experience, they fought off their peers and progressed to the finals with ease. Making this the first time two Barbadians have been in the finals of this competition since its inception. The quality of our music is steadily rising as we can see that artists and producers have raised the bar in making their art a valuable export. I don’t know about you, but this just makes me relish the opportunity of hearing what’s in store for Crop Over 2015. Summer, part ya is ? Reviews Not only are the artist making waves but so are the producers. Barbados Music Awards’ Producers of the Year, De Red Boyz, are very much representing as three of their productions (“Lucy” - Destra, “Doh Take It On” -Chucky and “My House” - Farmer Nappy) also made the finals.
