Sus cuadros han alcanzado sumas de millo-
nes de libras, pero Gerhard Richter sigue
siendo un misterio para muchos. Además de
su timidez ante la cámara, el pintor alemán,
a sus 87 años, es un artista polifacético que
se mantiene al margen de cualquier corriente
artística. Arriba de artistas como Jeff Koons
y Annie Leibovitz Richter es el artista mejor
pagado en el mundo, logrando en 2011 un
ingreso total de aproximadamente 200 mi-
llones de dólares en ventas de sus obras.
Su obra es profunda e introspectiva, re-
flejando su ideología política y el impacto
que los traumáticos eventos de la Segunda
Guerra Mundial tuvieron en su propia vida
y su desarrollo como artista. Viviendo su in-
fancia bajo el nazismo, y su juventud bajo el
comunismo, Richter aprendió el poder de la
comunicación audiovisual y, a través de sus
estudios en Bellas Artes, desarrolló un talen-
to único que le permitió explorar diferentes
medios artísticos, mayormente la pintura
realista basada en modelos fotográficos, la
figuración, sus famosos gray paintings (pin-
turas grises), el expresionismo abstracto y la
reinterpretación de los temas clásicos dentro
del arte contemporáneo, como sus Vanitas o
su Anunciación según Tiziano de 1973.
Tanto sus cuadros como su vida misma
parecen una obra de arte, tanto así que ha
sido la inspiración de la nueva película Ne-
ver Look Away. Nominada a los 91st Aca-
demy Awards el pasado febrero 2019, la
película honra a este magnífico artista que,
hasta el día de hoy, sigue maravillándonos
con cada una de sus obras.

ent. His painting and life are both a masterpiece and the inspiration behind
the new film «Never Look Away», which pays tribute to this extraordinary
artist and was nominated for an Oscar during the 91st Academy Awards.
