Las ciudades ofrecen una vida creativa y cos-
mopolita, mayor número de oportunidades,
entretenimiento sin fin y una escena social
en constante cambio. La vida urbana del si-
glo xxi plantea sin embargo grandes desa-
fíos, cada vez somos más y debemos trabajar
más arduamente para obtener una parte de la
«buena vida» a la que todos queremos tener
acceso. En un mundo de metrópolis super-
pobladas, el acceso a la vivienda se está com-
plicando. Los intentos previos realizados por
arquitectos y planificadores para diseñar una
salida a esa situación se basaban en dos ten-
dencias: más arriba o más lejos. Sin embargo,
resuelven un viejo problema creando otros
nuevos: falta de comunidad y conexión con
el entorno.
Mirando más allá del campo de la auto-
moción, buscando la manera de ayudar a sus
clientes en otros aspectos de sus vidas, la casa
MINI se puso a trabajar en el tema y en abril
de 2016, en el Salone del Mobile de Milán,
invitó a un equipo de creativos de todo el
mundo a reunir sus ideas. Desde entonces

through its MINI Living program, is looking for new
approaches to city life with some interesting projects.
From London to LA and New York to Beijing, Urban Cab-
in, with its 15m2 of built surface, is the latest proposal
for temporary housing, a flexible solution that faithfully
reflects the MINI philosophy of «creative use of space».
No design is the same, their shapes consider our new
global identity and consider relevant local issues to re-
flect the essence of the city. Hence, local architects are
involved in their design and manufacturing, adding that
touch of affection from a personal point of view of what
a home means in that city. After making stops in New
York and LA, MINI´s Urban Cabin has arrived in Beijing
inspired by the «hutong», one of the city´s most tradi-
tional housing concepts. Local architect, Sun Dayong,
was chosen to realize this project. Urban life used to re-
volve around the hutongs – a combination of public and
