Project-Based Learning in the Middle School Classroom

By: Sarah Rambo

Defined STEM: A PBL resource

To support the PBL theories, it is important to make the assignment authentic and realistic. For each grade level, I have created mini-lessons to support the learning of each specific standard of the core content areas related to the PBL. All the mini-lessons have embedded technology resources to encourage diversity in obtaining the necessary skills to complete the overarching inquiry project. There is a Hyperdoc that has been created to help teachers facilitate the inquiry process with their students.

All of the resources are included on the website and will hopefully inspire my colleagues to apply a PBL environment in their classrooms. For my fellow colleagues, this is a great opportunity to collaborate and communicate with both students and staff in a different setting and relationship type. At the end of this research I hope teachers have learned more about what implemented project-based learning looks like and how they can use cross-curricular strategies to emphasize and transfer students to other real-world learning opportunities.
