TECHNOLOGY FOR WRITING THE KEY Components Apps such as Popplet and Toontastic are great tools for teaching writing and keeping student engagement high. Popplet is a great app that allows students to visualize their writing plan/ideas. Toontastic enables students to draw, animate and share their visual stories. Virtual Graphic Organizers/ Story Webs are also a great teaching tools to differentiate writing. Sites such as Creately allow students to select any type of interactive graphic organizer they may need to plan out their writing process. Websites such as Storybird allow students to create online story maps and virtual characters. They can even publish the final version of their story with this website. Google Documents is a place where students can practice the writing process with technology. Most students already have an account set-up for them, and can easily access all of their writing creations in their Google Drives. Their writing is always saved, and they can use all of the tools available to them including the chat and sharing features to be able to peer-edit and revise their writing.Websites such as NoRedInk, Kahoot, and Educreations are just a few places that educators can get student’s writing with technology. Students in the 21st century learning environments are begging to game-based learning and Kahoot is an avenue that is not only fun, but also extremely educational. The possibilities are endless with ways teachers can teach writing through this website, and the data that becomes available after each game, is top notch. NoRedInk is a place where students get individualized instruction and practice with very little time or effort from the teacher. With Educreations, students learn how to write and revise. The teacher’s can use an iPad to narrate over and annotate a piece of sample writing for students to see.
