Increasing Student
Achievement Through
a Blended Learning
Environment
By: Jane Zimmerer
My action research study looked at
providing an opportunity for students
that were coming into 5th grade
performing below grade level to
increase their achievement to on grade
level by the end of the school year. The
study was completed using a blended
learning environment that I created
through Schoology. Students used
time in class after they finished their
work or time with an instructional
coach to work on the supplemental
lessons.
They did not have “extra work”
but instead completed the
activities in times that were
flexible. The question that I
specifically looked at was
if students received this
supplemental instruction, will
their achievement reach to
grade level?
