Volunteering
Kenna and Max Supkis served as the co-chairs for the Inaugural Pedal for a Purpose
Bike Ride in 2015. With their leadership, 179 people participated and the ride raised
$17,090 for Boys and Girls Country. They agreed to co-chair the 2016 event and we
asked Kenna some questions about their volunteer experience.

How long have you been volunteering with us and what do you do?
We have been volunteering for about three years now. We started in the
Young Professionals Group and then found our calling working on the Pedal
for a Purpose Bike ride committee. I also do cupcake decorating classes with
the cottages several times a year.
What’s your background?
We are both Texas A&M graduates who now work in the Houston oil and gas
industries. Max is a mechanical engineer and I work in the family sheet metal
business.
Why do you choose to donate your time to Boys and Girls Country?
We have been incredibly blessed in this life, and we choose to volunteer
because these kids deserve the same experiences and opportunities we have
had growing up. We have heard about the hard lives these children are
coming from and met the sweet young adults they are becoming because of
their time on campus, and it warms our hearts. If we can have even a small
impact by creating a fun interaction or event in their day, it makes our time
absolutely worth it!
The staff and Teaching Parents have created a structured and loving
atmosphere in which the kids thrive. We see the positive impact every time
we are on campus and get to hang out with the children that benefit from
this program. They are kind, respectful, engaged, and enthusiastic. It makes
volunteering with them so much fun! We have chosen to donate our time at
Boys and Girls Country because we want to do all we can to help out these
awesome kids and the entire Boys and Girls Country program.
What has been your most rewarding volunteer experience so far?
We loved getting to see the Inaugural Pedal for a Purpose Bike Ride come to
life and be a success!
What has surprised you most about volunteering at Boys and Girls Country?
The entire staff and Teaching Parents’ dedication never ceases to amaze us.
We can see it’s a genuine work of the heart and they are awesome!
What do you wish other people knew about Boys and Girls Country?
We wish other people knew that finding a place to volunteer at Boys and Girls
Country is as easy as sharing your favorite hobby. The kids are up for anything!
Bring your favorite sports, your musical talents, or your cupcake decorating
skills and the volunteer coordinator will find a place for you.
