originally built when energy savings was not a consideration. In the past five
years alone, our annual cost for electricity has risen over 33 percent. Energy
efficient windows and insulation all need to be added to reduce current and
future expenses.
We are proud to have been
selected by HomeAid Houston
and Partners in Building to receive
their assistance in replacing our
cottages. We have launched a
campaign called Building for
the Next 50 Years to raise the
much-needed funds to complete
the project.
At the Groundbreaking Ceremony,
Mike Gatewood, past board chair
and current chair of the Endowment Board, told the children: “We
are building cottages. But, it will be
up to you as a family to make these
homes. We know that homes are defined by the love and the sharing of that
love that takes place inside those walls. I want you to know that we are proud of
what is accomplished here within the family of Boys and Girls Country. We are
proud of each and every young person who leaves here to make their way in this
world, determined to make their life significant. It is our privilege to help you in
any way we can.”
If you would like to find out how you can help in building these new homes
for our children, please contact Elaine Petranek at 281-290-1287 or

“Our partnership with
HomeAid Houston
allows us to help provide
a safe, nurturing
environment for some
very deserving kids at
Boys and Girls Country,”
said Jim Lemming,
president and CEO of
Partners in Building. “We
are honored to be able
provide our services and
experience on this
ambitious project.”
