Special Interview
Celebrating 100 Years of Life:
Mrs. Jean Robinson
Ms. Jean Robinson, one of the founders of Boys and Girls Country, turned 100
this past October. I was able to attend a birthday celebration with part of the
management team from Boys and Girls Country. I was thrilled to be able to
participate in wishing her a happy birthday. After all, she is the reason why Boys
and Girls Country is here and why I am able to stay here along with my little
brother Matthew.
I was fortunate enough to be able to interview Ms. Robinson for the newsletter.
Robert: Did you think Boys and Girls Country would still be around today?
Ms. Robinson: No, I did not think it
would still be around today and thought
something else would have come of it by
now.
Robert: Why did you start building Boys
and Girls Country (at the time Boys
Country)?
Corporate Sponsors
College and Career Sponsor
Cottage Sponsors
Ms. Robinson: My husband loved to
build and since his job provided a great
source of income and he owned a good
bit of land, where Boys and Girls Country
is now, he thought it would be a good
idea to take in some young men that
needed a chance in life. So that is what
we did, we built multiple buildings in
order to provide a home for these young
men. My mother taught me how to clean
and that’s what I focused on with the
boys.
Robert: Did you enjoy your birthday cake we brought you today?
Ms. Robinson: By golly, this cake is beautiful and I love it!
I had a wonderful time celebrating Ms. Robinson’s 100th birthday and being able
to truly understand how Boys and Girls Country came to existence. Ms. Robinson
said she remembered planting the original trees on the property and now for me
to be able to see those very trees every day is truly a blessing.
