Jon Snow was raised alongside the other Stark children: Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon. Because he was never truly considered a full Stark he was not the rightful heir but nevertheless was treated no differently than the other Stark children by his father. Unfortunately, outside the walls he was treated differently. Jon was a constant reminder of Lord Eddard’s dishonesty to his wife, hence Lady Catelyn and younger sister Sansa’s lack of affection towards him. Jon would never be allowed to attend formal occasions and would often be barred from sitting inside at the Lord’s table with his family as so not to offend any important guests.

Shortly after the arrival of King Robert Baratheon, Jon decides to join the night’s watch, a military formed to guard the wall that separates the Seven Kingdoms from the land beyond and it’s creatures. There, Jon is trained in combat and guards the wall.

His adventures beyond the wall to protect it led him to meet Ygritte, a wildling of the free lands. Unfortunately, the men of the night’s watch and the wildlings have never gotten along. Men of the night’s watch as part of their oath are forced to be celibate. One night, Ygritte ambushes Jon into a cave where he goes against his oath and makes love to her, thus the start of their complicated love.

When Jon comes back to the wall, Jon warns the brothers that the White walker’s are back. White walkers are humanoid ice creatures that pose a threat to any living creature. Jon proposes a plan to team up with the wildlings to protect the wall. This earns him respect from enough brothers to earn him the title of Lord Commander. Unfortunately there are many others of the night’s watch that are completely against the plan and are angry that he has now been appointed Lord Commander.

Unfortunately, the only thing Jon Snow could not protect himself from was the betrayal of his brothers. A few of the brothers of the night’s watch grew to hate Jon for making an alliance with the wildlings which was uncommon that they plotted to kill him. One night, they successfully conned Jon to a spot they marked traitor to show him what he has done and stabbed him multiple times while uttering “For The Watch”.

The loss of Lord Commander shocked and angered many of the brothers as well as wildlings that took Jon’s side in the fight against the white walkers. But fortunately, Melisandre, a witch trained in black magic although at first discouraged, performs a ritual on Jon’s body to bring him back to life.

When Jon comes back to life, he summons those who betrayed them and punishes them by hanging and gives up his title as Lord Commander to his fellow brother, Edd.

Shortly after, Jon is reunited with his half sister Sansa after she was held captive by the sadistic Ramsay Bolton. After learning about the terrible things Ramsay has done to Sansa and Ramsay’s plan to take over Winterfell, the Stark’s home, Jon, Sansa and the rest of the night’s watch and the wildlings join forces in the fight against the Boltons. Thus marks the beginning of the “Battle of the Bastards.”

During the battle, we faced what we thought might be the end of Jon Snow but was in fact just the beginning. Despite having died and risen back to life, Jon with the help of his sister Sansa and her surprise army was able to defeat Ramsay Bolton, take back Winterfell, and kill Ramsay himself.

But this is only the beginning for what’s to come for the Stark’s and Jon. Soon they come to face the dragon queen herself, Daenerys Targaryen as she plots to take back her rightful spot on the iron throne. The much talked about long winter has also arrived. Jon Snow may no longer be Lord Commander of the night’s watch, but his watch has surely not ended with what’s to come next.

As Lord Commander of the watch, Jon Snow commanded the fight against the wildlings, which resulted into the death of his love, Ygritte as well as Stannis and his army who tried to take over Castle Black, the night’s watch home base.

Jon Snow is one the very few men left in the kingdom to conceal a powerful sword made from Valyrian steel, which is forged with dragon fire and spells. With it he is able to kill white walkers, an almost impossible task which can only be done with the help of the precious metal.
