Outcomes for Young People

Student Attendance
Students enrolled at the BEST Centre come to the school with very complex backgrounds , and experience a range of issues which impact seriously on their capacity to engage with the education process . Attendance for individual students is strongly influenced by events occurring in their lives outside of the school setting .
At the Morwell campus , average attendance for 2011 was 82 %, an improvement of 10 % from 2010 .
In 2011 , overall attendance for students at the Noble Park campus was 32 %, a small improvement from 2010 . Though this lower figure can be explained by the complex nature of students enrolled in 2011 , a range of strategies have been implemented to support improvements in student attendance rates for 2012 .
Student attendance is tracked daily and contact is made with families , residential units and other carers .
Student Outcomes and post-school destinations
In 2011 , the BEST Centre provided a school program to 79 students , 60 males and 19 females . Seven of our students were Indigenous .
Their outcomes were :

Outcomes

• nine undertook a transition to community colleges or TAFEs to continue their education
• twelve transferred to training programs

• one transferred toanother school for young

• five students moved into employment
• two students are unemployed
• one student is looking for work
• the destinations of seven students remain unknown .
The remainder returned to the BEST Centre at the commencement of 2012 .
Parent , Student and Teacher satisfaction with the school
In 2011 , the BEST Centre took part for the second time in the LEAD survey , a suite of stakeholder surveys offered by Independent Schools Victoria as part of the National Partnerships program .
Results of the surveys showed that parent / carer satisfaction with the school was very high , showing in the upper quartile as measured against all participating schools . The level of satisfaction improved from the already high levels in the 2011 survey , with improvement in all domains .
Student satisfaction with the school was slightly above the mean as measured against all participating schools . This showed a significant improvement on the 2010 survey . Clear areas of improvement from the 2010 survey were academic achievement , facilities and resources , health and safety and goal alignment .

Teacher satisfaction overall remained lower than the mean as measured against all participating schools . The areas of discipline , pastoral care and teaching practice in the school-based domains showed the highest levels of satisfaction . In the workplace domains , however , all areas - Feedback , Goal Alignment , Leadership and Morale , Staff Collaboration and Professional Development- were equal to or above the 2011 Teachers Independent Schools Victoria mean . people
