Outcomes for Young People Student Attendance Students enrolled at The BEST Centre come to the school with very complex backgrounds and experience a range of issues which impact seriously on their capacity to engage with the education process. Individual attendance can be inconsistent according to the events occurring in their lives at the time. At the Morwell campus average attendance for 2010 was 72%. In 2010, overall attendance for students at the Noble Park campus was 30%. Though this lower figure can be explained by the complex nature of students enrolled in 2010, a range of strategies have been implemented to support improvements in student attendance rates for 2011. Every student’s attendance is tracked daily, and contact is made with families, residential units and other carers. Student Outcomes and Post-School Destinations. In 2010, the BEST Centre provided a school program to 74 students, including 8 Indigenous students. Their outcomes were: » 12 undertook a transition to Year 11 or a Vocational Education and Training course at a local secondary college or within VCAL programs » 8 transferred to pre-employment programs » 3 students moved into employment » 3 enrolled in alternative education programs » 10 students undertook White Card OH&S formal orientation as part of a pre-vocational training program » 1 student is looking for work » 60% of students with Individual Education Plans achieved their first preference personal goals to develop their pre-employment work related skills and knowledge. » 27 returned to the BEST Centre at the commencement of 2011. » 10 students moved away from the area or were unable to continue their education. Parent, Student, and Teacher satisfaction with the school. In 2010, the BEST Centre took part for the first time in the LEAD survey, a suite of stakeholder surveys offered by Independent Schools Victoria as part of the National Partnerships program. Results of the surveys showed that parents/carers satisfaction with the school were high, showing in the upper quartile as measured against all participating schools. Student satisfaction with the school was in the lower quartile as measured against all participating schools. Students were positive about teacher quality and parent and community involvement, but clear areas for improvement are academic achievement and facilities and resources. A Teacher Satisfaction survey was also completed. This showed an overall satisfaction with the school. Clear areas of improvement are in morale and aligning staff goals with the overall school goals.
