Providing a Nurturing, Attractive and Accessible
Physical Environment
Building Renovations
The Berry Street Model of Education
places emphasis on the provision of
a nurturing, attractive and accessible
physical environment, and considerable
work was undertaken during 2010 to
improve buildings and facilities.
The Noble Park Campus is situated on
an industrial estate, and working within
the factory/warehouse structure always
poses challenges, but it enables the
creation of a space which is interesting
and appealing for students.
The campus was fortunate in receiving
grants from the Australian Government
to assist with renovation and
redevelopment of the school site.
A grant of $250,000 was received under
the Building the Education Revolution
Program (BER P21), and a further
$50,000 was allocated under the School
Pride Program.
This was used to completely rebuild a
main learning area, computer room,
music room and auto workshop, and
also remodel the kitchen area to
create a new teaching kitchen with two
workstations. Food technology is a vital
part of the program at the campus, with
all students encouraged to undertake
cooking. It is important that our
students learn independent living
skills and feel confident in preparing
appealing, nutritious meals.
Late in 2010, IKEA kindly donated new
furniture for the renovated areas of the
school. A dedicated team of IKEA staff
gave up their free time to come to the
school to paint walls, providing a splash
of bright green to add interest to the
workspace. They also assembled tables,
chairs and bookcases.
The renovations have created a school
space of which the students are very
proud.
