Improvement in educational outcomes for our students remains our highest priority . In 2012 we built on the work done throughout 2011 to develop ��������������������������������������������� focussed on the development and implementation of tools to assess improvement in student outcomes in these areas .
Literacy Curriculum Development in 2012
������������������������������������������� ������������������������������������������������������� know that in order for our students to succeed , they ����������������������������������������������������� ��������������������������������������������������� the critical-thinking skills needed to work through long and short-term goals . The writing workshop model also gives our students a process of research , drafting , editing , revision , and publishing for audiences including presentations to peers , school newspapers and yearbooks , and an empowering ���������������������������������������������������� �������������������������������������������������� and wanted to address , in addition to screenplays , poetry , songs , narrative pieces , and informational articles on topics relevant to them . Research strategies , especially the best ways to incorporate the internet and technology were brought to the writing classroom .
Growing stamina for reading - one minute at a time
In 2012 we reconceived how reading could be taught ������������������������������������������������� often , reading poses the greatest challenge to our students . There are many legitimate reasons why our students are frustrated in their reading , and we are working to instil a love for reading , both for real- ��������������������������������������������������������� One minute at a time , students were given time in classrooms to challenge their own reading stamina ���������������������������������������������������� campuses to make reading attractive , comfortable , and different from the other classes . Our goal was to change the way our students perceived reading and we encouraged the use of tools that ����������������������������������������������� tablets , and a plethora of choice in topics and ability levels . Teachers were able to teach reading in small groupings or one-on-one in these reading rooms , meeting each student ’ s needs with personalized strategies . By focusing on reading stamina , we were to add yet another predictable routine for the �������������������������������������������������� student content and building empowerment as a learner .
A focus on assessment — and a celebration of success .
������������������������������������������������ working together to produce visible and measurable success in our academic programs . In 2012 we provided students with high-quality academic �������������������������������������������������� ����������������������������������������������� ���������������������������������������������� ��������������������������������������������������� ������������������������������������������������� in student-friendly language ( e . g . borrowing from the kitchen , with “ medium ” “ hot ” and “ spicy ” on classroom learning rubrics to celebrate growth ) and shared incremental success with students each term . Some of our students knew they were improving and would ask to be reassessed to prove it . At the end of the year , we found that our students had shown academic improvement of 1.7 years of learning in just one-year according to the Australian Curriculum learning standards .
