Our Goal Areas

Services
Berry Street delivers the highest quality culturally sensitive , holistic and empowering services to Aboriginal children and families .
Objectives :
■ Ensure the lens of culture is used effectively in our practice with Aboriginal children and families 1 .
■ Articulate and embed the cultural component of Foundations for Practice .
■ Develop the cultural dimensions of our approach to assessment , intervention and planning across Berry Street services , focusing on a holistic approach to service delivery .
■ In partnership with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations , work to reduce the incidence of family violence and abuse in Aboriginal families and enhance the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and women traumatised by family violence and abuse .
■ In partnership with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations , enhance therapeutic approaches to care with Aboriginal children .
■ Promote the empowerment of Aboriginal children , young people and families in Berry Street services .
■ Aspire to exceed all service standards relating to cross-cultural practice and care .
People
Berry Street has culturally aware and competent staff and carers .
Objectives :
■ Build a culturally competent workforce to ensure staff and carers are confident , respectful and work responsibly with and for Aboriginal children , families and Communities .
■ Provide a culturally safe workplace .
■ Respect and support Aboriginal staff to attend to their Community responsibilities and obligations .
Resources
Berry Street has the right resources to do its work . Objectives :
■ Ensure an Aboriginal perspective is voiced in Berry Street governance .
■ Ensure Aboriginal children and families feel safe and welcomed at Berry Street sites , and Aboriginal people see positive representation of their culture .
■ Seek , in partnership with Aboriginal organisations , both government and non-government resources to achieve better outcomes for Aboriginal children and families .
