Accountability to our clients, staff, volunteers, colleagues, funders and supporters – is one of our five organisational Values. Accountability, stewardship of Berry Street’s good reputation and assets, and charting a course for the future, are responsibilities which our Board and Executive Management Team take very seriously. In the past year:• The Board met 10 times and used its annual workshop with the Executive Management Team to frame key strategic priorities and a new Strategic Plan for 2010 – 2013. • Six monthly progress reports on the 2009/10 Business Plan were considered. It was pleasing that of the 20 strategies, 11 were fully achieved and seven were partially achieved. • We conducted a Board Effectiveness Review and used a consultant to moderate a discussion on the findings. • All Directors completed a Register of Interests and Statement of Good Character. 5 • A new Governance Committee lead a review of our organisational infrastructure and identified where investment was required to ensure that we manage our continued growth effectively. • We successfully completed all quality and accreditation requirements:– registration as a Community Service Organisation; Homelessness Assistance Service Standards; and our school was accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority. Take Two received accreditation against the EQUIP standards (Evaluation and Quality Improvement Program) through the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards. • Our financial management systems were significantly improved through the implementation of a new system, including customer relationship modules for help desk, motor vehicle, property and purchasing functions. • Policies and procedures were improved in relation to privacy and client records. • Business Continuity and Fire Preparedness Plans were developed for each region/group and the whole organisation. • We improved our already good WorkCover performance (which is 20% better than the industry average) and introduced a new Safety in the Workplace Tool in Occupational Health and Safety Week.
