Our resources -
our necessary foundation
• Installing video conferencing in
12 sites across the State to reduce
staff travel.
• Managing and continuing to reduce
the environmental impact of our large
(336) motor vehicle fleet.
Our 2009/10 financial result was a
pleasing surplus, largely attributable
to savings in salary expenditure and
$900,000 from the Tony Williams
Foundation.
We are now a large and complex
organisation and this requires rigorous
financial management and efficient and
effective use of all our resources.
We are most grateful for the financial
support we receive from:• State and Federal Governments –
which enable us to provide our core
services.
• Philanthropic foundations, businesses,
schools and community groups – which
enable us to try new things and add
such value to our work.
• Individual donations and bequests –
which enable us to do more today,
as well as plan for the future.
It was a busy year for our capable
Business Operations team with:• The implementation of the new
financial management system.
• Establishing Open Place, four other
worksites and six new residential units
and renovations at our school campuses
– Noble Park and Morwell (through the
Building Education Revolution).
• Improved purchasing processes,
including a framework for greener
purchasing.
Our committed Development and
Communications teams continued to
find new ways to enlist the community
to support our work.
• We had our biggest ever Merry Berry
Christmas, with over 117 businesses,
groups and individuals helping to
provide gifts for 1,346 children and
young people. Sixty seven volunteers,
most from our corporate partners,
helped pack the presents.
• ANZ hosted a ‘Friends of Berry Street’
lunch, at which Chief Commissioner
Simon Overland spoke.
• Church Street Enoteca hosted the
second annual Celebrity Challenge
Dinner, which raised $24,500.
• We continued to tell our stories, with
297 pieces in print, radio and TV.
• We continued to grow our donor base
and funds raised from appeals.
