Berlesker: Handcrafted Literary Journal vol II | Page 18
n the weeks after Dixie’s passing,
the word legacy was constantly
used in discussions about her. “The
museum is Dixie’s legacy,” some
said. “The pageant is Dixie’s legacy,”
others said. And yet some others
I
said, “The new burlesque is Dixie’s
legacy.” I got to thinking a lot about
the word legacy and what I felt Dixie’s legacy is. I thought about how
I could best reflect on it throughout
my life when remembering her, as
well as what I could say about it for
this article. Maybe burlesque legend
and total bad ass, Camille 2000 was
on the same wave length, because
she posted this on FaceBook that
very week:
“No legacy is so rich as honesty.”
~William Shakespeare
