Stories of the voodoo spirit world, Haitian history, and life in Port-au-Prince create the lyrical backdrop to Moonlight Benjamin's music. Having grown up in an orphanage in the Caribbean capital, Benjamin moved from Haiti to France to study jazz in 2002 – and has been living there since. In 2009 she went back to her home country for her voodoo priestess initiation. Benjamin has been involved in a number of musical projects within jazz, rock, blues, and world music and has collaborated with musici- ans like saxophonist Jacques Schwarz-Bart and pianist Omar Sosa.
