Caribbean rhythms, and massive
guitar riffs.
Stories of the voodoo spirit world, Haitian
history, and life in Port-au-Prince create the
lyrical backdrop to Moonlight Benjamin's
music. Having grown up in an orphanage in
the Caribbean capital, Benjamin moved from
Haiti to France to study jazz in 2002 – and has
been living there since. In 2009 she went back
to her home country for her voodoo priestess
initiation.
Benjamin has been involved in a number of
musical projects within jazz, rock, blues, and
world music and has collaborated with musici-
ans like saxophonist Jacques Schwarz-Bart and
pianist Omar Sosa. Her voice is beautiful and

riffs embrace the rhythms and lyrics, creating
an atmosphere that is somewhat dark as well
as uplifting at the same time.
