The Norwegian string players, who consistently
receive praise and recognition worldwide for
their captivating musical expression, have been
referred to as ‘the queens of chamber music’. As
the oldest active quartet in Norway – and the
oldest female quartet in the world – they hold
a special place in the history of music.

Aus meinem Leben
‘Assiduous work, solid cohesion and the urge
to tell a story in music – this is our holy trinity,’
says violist Berit Cardas.
They have collaborated with pianist Leif Ove
Andsnes and violinist Lawrence Power in addi-
tion to touring as a quintet with pianist Paul
Lewis.
During their anniversary concert the Vertavo
Quartet performs works they have lived with for
several decades, in what the queens themselves
refer to as ‘a lovely programme that shows a lot
of what we are.’ Time to celebrate!
